Private dog training is one of the most efficient and effective methods of improving your dog’s behavior. Private training takes place in the comfort of the dog’s own environment and allows them to gain new skills and change their behaviors where it matters most. At All Dogs Are Good Dogs, we offer two types of private training: one-on-one coaching and day training.

Private training is always customized to meet the unique needs of the dog as well as the guardian’s goals, which may include potty training, obedience skills, walking politely on a leash, or behavior modification for anxiety or aggression.

Private training always starts with a free phone consultation. This conversation is important to answer any questions or concerns that you might have and to discuss which services are best suited to meet your goals.

We train dogs in the greater Boston area: north to Salem, west to Watertown, and south to Jamaica Plain and Dorchester.

1:1 Coaching in Your Home Tailored to Your Dog’s Needs

In-home dog training allows you and your dog to learn in a familiar environment and to learn or modify behaviors directly where they occur. This allows for maximally efficient progress!

Coaching is ideal for clients who want to develop their training skills alongside their dog’s behavioral skills. We meet regularly for an hour-long session, where we teach you how to train your dog and modify their behavior. You will then receive homework to practice in between sessions so you can continue making progress.

Through coaching, our goal is always to help you gain the skills to continue independently working and training with your dog following the conclusion of your package.

To ensure the best possible outcome for both dog and guardian, each training plan is customized to the dog’s individual needs, taking into account:

  • Breed
  • Age
  • Temperament
  • Personality
  • Goals
  • History
  • Environment

Several factors make in-home coaching so effective for dog training:

  • Individualized attention: One-on-one training sessions allow trainers to focus solely on the dog and guardian.
  • Comfort and familiarity: Training in the dog’s own home reduces stress, allowing for easier generalization of learned behaviors. It is extremely helpful to work with the dog in the environment where the behavior is taking place or needs to be learned.
  • Convenience: In-home training is more convenient for many guardians because they don’t need to travel, especially for dogs who struggle in the car or in unfamiliar environments.

A single in-person, in-home private training session is $225 for 1 hour. Multi-session packages are discounted as follows:

  • Four sessions: $865
  • Six sessions: $1240
  • Eight sessions: $1585

In our first session, we will evaluate you and your dog to establish a baseline for your dog’s current behaviors and your handling skills. This allows us to build the most efficient and customized training plan, beginning with you and your dog’s exact starting point. We will then create a management plan if needed and start work on our first skill together.

In all subsequent sessions, training typically starts with a brief check-in about how the previous week has gone. We will then review the skills that you learned in the previous session, make any needed adjustments, and then push forward on the next portion of our training plan. We’ll end with homework for you and your dog during the week so that you can continue to make progress before our next session.

Importantly, you also have access to office hours twice a week for support between sessions. Our goal is to always use our in-person time together as efficiently as possible. If new concerns pop up throughout the week, or you’re having any trouble implementing homework, we don’t want you to wait a week to let us know!

1:1 Online Private Dog Training: Convenient and Flexible

We also offer the same level of private training virtually. Virtual dog training is not new, but it has recently become a mainstream way for dog training. Holistic Dog Training’s blog points out a major benefit: recording the virtual sessions allows you to go back and view them later. There are some great FAQs included in the blog, too!

Virtual training is a phenomenal choice for guardian/dog teams outside of our service area and for dogs who are not yet comfortable with strangers entering the home. As your virtual dog trainer, All Dogs Are Good Dogs will work with you and your dog in much the same way we do for in-person training. This is accomplished by utilizing video conferencing technology (Zoom) to effectively observe and guide both the dog and the guardian.

The advantage for you and your dog is that you can train in the convenience and comfort of your own home, regardless of where that home is!

Several studies show that the effectiveness of remote dog training is comparable to traditional in-home training when it is conducted by experienced professionals. It can address many common behavioral issues like jumping on people, walking on a leash and basic obedience training. Also, just as with in-person training, it allows real-time feedback and adjustments during the training sessions.

If you are looking for dog training to address basic obedience issues or to help with specific behaviors, our online dog training may be a great option for you.

Skeptical about virtual training? Studies have found it’s actually MORE effective in certain cases! During your initial phone consultation, we will help you to decide what style of training makes the most sense.

A 1-hour online private dog training session is $160. Packages are discounted as follows:

  • 4-Package: $615
  • 6-Package: $885
  • 8-Package: $1126

You will talk with the trainer during your initial phone consultation, who will use that information to customize training based on your dog’s (and your) specific needs and goals. For most goals, we will recommend the appropriate package to provide consistency in building skills.

During each session, you will work 1:1 with Laura to build skills. She will start by modeling skills with a helper dog, and then coach you through the steps to build that skill with your own dog on camera.

1:1 Puppy-Raising Package: Because Your Puppy Deserves a Great Start

Most puppies don’t come with an owner’s guide, and the ones that do usually don’t cover the important stuff like obedience, training, and that ever-important puppy socialization.

Socialization is a critical period that you can’t get back once it’s passed. You’ll save a lot of headaches and training dollars by making sure you are setting your puppy up for success at a young age through structured, intentional early socialization and skills-building.

We offer affordable puppy training with our 1:1 Puppy Raising package. All your burning puppy-training questions will be answered, such as:

  • How can I potty train this dog?
  • How does crate training work? When should I ignore my puppy’s cries and when should I attend to them?
  • How do I get this puppy to stop launching at me with their shark teeth?
  • What exactly is socialization and why is it so important?
  • How do I start training my puppy to listen to cues such as sit, down, stay, and come?

When you welcome a new puppy into your family, it’s an exciting, joyous time. Our puppy-training package will help you keep those good vibes going as it empowers you to build a strong foundation for your new addition to the family.

Puppies are so much fun and so stinkin’ cute, but they do have a lot to learn. They are still discovering the world while learning how to act appropriately around children, dogs, and strangers.

You can – and should – start as early as possible! The importance of a structured socialization plan for young puppies cannot be overstated, and private training means we can start this the day they come home, regardless of vaccination status.

All sessions cover common struggles of puppyhood (crate training, home-alone training, house-training, chewing and biting) while also creating space to get on top of any unique challenges you and your puppy may have. We combine skills-building with age-appropriate socialization to ensure your puppy grows into a well-adjusted and polite adult dog!

Our 1:1 Puppy-Raising Package is $2,675 for 14 sessions, which is the largest package discount. We meet twice a week for 7 weeks to take full advantage of the critical period.

All puppies that go through our puppy raising package are eligible for the S.T.A.R. Puppy Test at the end of the package. Furthermore, the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program is a great stepping stone to the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program, laying a strong groundwork for your dog’s training journey as they continue to age.

Sliding Scale Program: Affordable Dog Training for Guardians of Shelter and Rescue Dogs

We are committed to keeping rescue and shelter dogs in their homes. If accessing training services would prevent you from affording your basic needs (food, shelter and clothing), and you have a dog adopted through a rescue or shelter, please contact us to discuss a sliding scale.

We do not ask for proof of financial hardship, and you will receive the same level of service as all clients.

Please note that we can offer limited sliding-scale slots per month for training support, and a waiting list is available if all slots are filled for the current month.
